Avirah, the University of Maryland's Israeli Dance Company, was originally formed in the 1990s and revived in 2013. We are now a strong performing group with diverse dance backgrounds. We perform on campus, in the Greater Washington D.C. area, and at Israeli Dance Festivals across the East Coast.
Any UMD students who want to be in Avirah, whether you can commit to dance rehearsals or not, is encouraged to join our Terplink page and become a General Member.
Throughout the semester, we hold Open Dancing sessions for the entire community. No dance experience is required! We also partner with other campus groups to incorporate Israeli dancing into diverse events. Keep an eye on our social media for upcoming events.
The purpose of Avirah is to bring Israeli dance culture to the University of Maryland and surrounding communities. Avirah aims to foster cultural diversity on campus by giving dancers the opportunity to learn and perform Israeli dance, and to join worldwide Israeli dance communities. We promote a positive environment where dancers strive for performance excellence.
